Personal Investment

Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life it will improve the lives of all those around you."

-Robin S. Sharma

The benefits of investing in psychotherapy are often life-changing.

Clients who actively participate in therapy often report improved mood, solutions to specific problems, improved relationships, and a significant reduction in feelings of distress. Therapy provides clients with a unique opportunity to be completely open about their innermost thoughts and feelings. Therapy is a safe and confidential place to be heard, absent of judgment, and by a professional who can help you navigate the complexity of your life.

It is important to know that therapy involves taking a risk. It involves allowing all emotions to be experienced in a safe environment. If you fully engage in therapy you will feel uncomfortable emotions. Participating in therapy is not easy. It requires an active investment of time, energy, and money.

Will it be easy? Nope. Worth it? Absolutely!

TIME

The amount of time that is required to benefit from therapy varies depending upon your current situation and goals. During your initial assessment your therapist will help you to clarify goals, develop a plan, and discuss specific recommendations that will include your own specific time commitment. Generally, it is recommended that you attend therapy at least once per week. As you experience progress therapy is typically reduced to once every two weeks. Maintenance therapy (1x per month) is often recommended once goals are achieved to preserve achievements and promote further growth.

The time you commit to sitting in the therapy office is a great start. However, therapy is most effective when clients are able to practice strategies learned in session at home, school, work and/or in social settings. You may often be asked to complete “therapy homework” in-between sessions.

ENERGY

The amount of energy you are willing to invest in the therapeutic process will directly impact the outcome. A client who is open and willing to actively engage in the process will typically experience the most growth and success.
