Joel Burke joined Pathways as an associate therapist in 2019. His education includes a Bachelor in Science from Charleston Southern (1976). A Masters of Divinity (1980) and a Doctorate of Ministry (1988) from Southern Baptist Seminary, and a Master of Professional Counseling from Liberty University (2016). He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is a Nationally Board Certified Counselor.
Joel has had the valuable experience of working with military service members and their families for over 20 years, supporting two deployments in combat zones (Kosovo and Iraq). He has served as a pastor in a community church, provided clinical services within an inpatient psychiatric facility, and offered counseling services in private practice settings. He has a deep appreciation for diversity and enjoys working with individuals from varying backgrounds, cultures, and faiths.
Dr. Burke strongly believes that a person's ability to build and maintain healthy relationships is integral to maintaining health and happiness. His specialties include helping individuals, couples, and families to make positive changes that will enrich their relationships and often alter the course of their lives.
A research-based approach to therapy is utilized and includes The Gottman Method, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused, and motivational interviewing techniques.
